Archived: River Bats Sign Six to Temporary Contracts
The St. Cloud River Bats of the Northwoods baseball league announced the signing of six players to temporary contracts for the 2010 season. Bryan Peters, Mike Carroll, Armando Gutierrez, Nick Anderson, Deryk Marks and Matt Lewis have all inked deals to join the Bats this summer.
Deryk Marks was this season’s Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference newcomer of the year as a junior at Augustana. The infielder led the NSIC in runs batted in with 78 and also topped the conference in doubles. A gold glove winner in 2010, Marks batted .433 on the season to go with 13 home runs.
Nick Anderson of Concordia-St. Paul also comes to the Bats from the NSIC. A junior pitcher from Plymouth, he was named NSIC player of the week on April 19th after going 2-0 over a seven day span. Anderson finished the season at 6-8 with a 4.95 earned run average.
The River Bats home opener is scheduled for June 5th at 7:05 p.m. A fireworks extravaganza is scheduled to take place after the game, which the team claims will be “longer, louder, and brighter than any fireworks show in River Bats history.”
Tickets for the home opener are still available.
